How Massage Can Help Target Back Pain and Back Problems.

Massage is non-invasive and considered very low risk for most people. In addition to physical benefits, certain types of massage have been shown to help psychologically via relaxation and increased production of 'feel good' chemicals that the body naturally produces (endorphins)--helpful for people with back pain.
Massage therapy is becoming more widely accepted in the medical community as a credible treatment for many types of back pain and/or as an adjunct to other medical treatments. Research shows that massage therapy has several potential health benefits for back pain sufferers, including:
  • Increased blood flow and circulation, which brings needed nutrition to muscles and tissues. This aids in recovery of muscle soreness from physical activity or soft tissue injury (such as muscle strain).
  • Decreased tension in the muscles. This muscle relaxation can improve flexibility, reduce pain caused by tight muscles and even improve sleep.
  • Increased endorphin levels--the "feel good" chemicals in the brain. This mood enhancer can ease depression and anxiety, which can help reduce pain and speed recovery--particularly important for those suffering from chronic back or neck problems. (source: spine-health.com)

Clients with Physical Disabilities and Medical Conditions

Customers with physical disabilities and medical conditions are welcome to contact me. So far I have treated wheelchair users, visually impaired and a few customers suffering from depression.

I have also treated 2 customers with parkinson's disease (whom I helped get undressed before the massage, and also get dressed after the massage), and one customer suffering from psoriasis. The oils I blended worked well for him and after a few visits, he told me that his skin condition has improved tremendously. I also advised him on some skincare.

I once had a customer who wore a colostomy bag. He didn't tell me this upfront and later confessed that he was embarrassed by it. Unfortunately, another masseur had refused to treat him in the past. I told him that this was nothing to be ashamed about. All I asked was that he put on a fresh bag before the massage.

I do not have lift/elevator access in the building I practise massage at. I am on the first floor. I have, on a few occasions, helped the occasional disabled customer upstairs, but that rarely happens. This is because most disabled customers ask for home visits. I don't advertise home visits, but do them in exceptional circumstances.

I have had customers in the past who have visited me with their carer. I have no issue with this as long as the carer does not observe the massage. This is because the treatment I do, especially the 3 step technique, is rather unique and I don't want anyone copying it!

I have also treated clients with cancer, in the past. Back problems are very common and I have treated many men who suffer from this condition. I also do some assisted stretching exercises for them.

So basically, if you have a medical condition or disability, please let me know about it. There's nothing to be embarrassed about. Don't feel reluctant to let me know. It helps. I also advise clients who are overweight, to let me know as I can then take the necessary precautions before doing the massage. This includes proper support, and making arrangements in terms of space etc.

Tailor-made Massage Treatments to Suit Your Needs

Customers who have specific requirements or needs are welcome to contact me and discuss matters before making bookings.

Some customers ask for a head massage to be included with the treatment, while others prefer a foot massage.

Often I get asked to put more focus on the back, and/or lower back as back problems are quite common.

Gym-goers and sportsmen often ask for deep tissue massage or just merely for more pressure on certain areas such as biceps, thighs, glutes etc. But overall, sporty types often want a full body deep tissue massage, for which I recommend my unique 3 step treatment.

Clients who prefer a lighter massage treatment which is more standard and simple are also welcome. This is also a full body massage.

Then of course, there's stress-relief, which is another thing I specialise in. From breathing technique to stretching movements, I assist the client. The massage treatments are geared towards giving the client a fulfilling experience. At the end of the massage, the client will experience relief and relaxation.
