Benefits of Back Massage and Helping Target Back Pain

Massage was once considered a luxury - something you’d enjoy at a spa or health club. However, the benefit of a massage is now considered a more mainstream therapy and is also recommended by certain doctors and other medical professionals. Massage can be part of an overall wellness program. One of the most common conditions people suffer from is back pain. And beneficial parts of the body for massage is the back, since the nerves run through the spine.

Relieve Lower Back Pain

A good back massage can help relieve lower back pain. After a strenuous workout or sitting at a desk all day, your back muscles are likely to be tense from overuse or repetitive use. So when I treat those muscles, some of the tension is released.

Relieves Tension from Upper Back

Repetitive motion or immobility may cause neck and shoulder pain. An upper back massage may help relieve the tension in that area and reduce the pain from migraines.

Releases “Feel Good” Chemicals

A back massage stimulates the production of endorphins, dopamine and serotonin, chemicals that make the body feel good. This helps manage pain and may allow you to reduce the amount of pain-killers you take, if any. A back massage can help decrease pain in the lower back, which may also help prevent anxiety and depression.

Improves Sleep

The back massage relaxes the larger muscles and relieves tension that may be causing you to have a difficult time falling asleep or staying in a deep sleep. This allows you to have full sleep cycles necessary for optimum performance and good health.

Helps the Healing Process

Even after a long history of back pain, a massage can help heal the tissues and muscles that have become tight, weak or atrophied. This will in turn improve your range of motion. According to Massagetherapy.com, it also helps reduce stretch marks and scar tissue. Athletes who have strained muscles in the lower, middle and upper back may notice increased joint flexibility after a back massage.

Increase Circulation

A back massage stimulates circulation and increases blood flow to the area. This will help bring blood with oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and major organs.

Feels Good

One of the best benefits of a back massage is that it feels good. Sometimes you just need to take a little time to relax and enjoy the pleasurable sensation of the human touch.

Gluteal Massage - Massaging the Body's Largest Muscles

The gluteus maximus is the largest muscle in the human body. It is large and powerful because it has the job of keeping the trunk of the body in an erect posture. It is the chief anti-gravity muscle that aids in walking up stairs.

The gluteal muscle group -- commonly known as the glutes -- includes 3 muscles located at the back of each hip. The glutes are the major components of each buttock. Gluteus maximus is the largest and most superficial of the gluteal muscle group, which also include gluteus medius and gluteus minimus. Gluteus maximus, along with the other gluteal muscles, serves many important functions. It stabilizes the pelvis and lower back, enabling an upright posture. It also has important roles in hip and thigh movements, and is a key player in powering walking, running and climbing.

Overview

Few body movements can be performed without the use of the gluteal muscles. Between regular use and the fact that many people spend the majority of the day sitting, the gluteal muscles end up in a state of constant tension. Tight glutes may be a cause of low back pain as well as pain and stiffness throughout the legs and hips. Butt massage will help alleviate the pain and tension associated with tight glute muscles, as well as offer beneficial effects for the rest of the body.

Reduce Pain and Stress

Butt massage can not only relieve pain and stress in the gluteal muscles, but it also offers the same benefits for the rest of the body. Massage on one part of your body produces chemical changes throughout the entire body that reduce pain and stress, according to a Sept. 4, 2008 article in "Newsweek."

Improve Blood and Lymph Circulation

The circulatory system works to carry oxygen and nutrients to your tissues while also removing waste. The lymph system delivers white blood cells and antibodies throughout your body to support your immune system. The gluteal region is rich in blood and lymph vessels, thereby immensely benefiting from massage therapy. The stroking movements performed during massage create a vacuum in the muscles to suck fluid through blood and lymph vessels as well as dilate the vessels to allow for greater nutrient transport, according to the Sports Injury Clinic.

Improve Muscle Recovery

Your gluteal muscles are at the core of every movement and, therefore, tend to become tight and sore after workouts. Incorporating butt massage into your exercise routine will help improve your muscle recovery time from muscular damage after a workout. A butt massage will improve blood flow and waste removal, increase tissue permeability, stretch hard-to-target muscle fibers and break down scar tissue, reports the Sports Injury Clinic. All of these attributes allow for more complete muscle repair and shorter muscle recovery time.

Massage Therapy for Sportsmen and Gym-goers

A number of my clients do sports. These men prefer massage with deep pressure. Most of them come for a massage after the sport, and of course there are the gym-goers who come for a massage after a vigorous training session at the gym.

Massage is a brilliant way to ease sore muscles, and to treat the areas of the body that have been working hard. Pain relief is also possible for minor injuries like you have pulled a muscle, or have a bruise.

There are also some clients who have been to see me before going to play sports or gym. This actually helps build fluidity in the muscles. It reminds me of sportsmen who do the Indian Kalaripayattu martial arts. They often have massage before the sport as it helps fluidity in the muscles. I include kalaripayattu "kalari" massage technique in my Unique 3 Step Massage Treatment

My clients who have had massage before going to the gym or playing sports, have told me that they did feel a difference. Massage can invigorate and stimulate just as much as it can relax and soothe.

Some clients have had my Simple & Standard Massage Treatment after the gym as not everyone is interested in deep tissue massage and deep pressure. This simple massage treatment is done with light to medium pressure and helps relax and soothe the muscles.

If you would like to discuss what type of massage treatment would suit you, please contact me on  078 7386 1344

I also get inquiries from couples and if you are a straight couple (male & female), then I am unable to see you both. I can only treat the man. If you are a male couple (gay), then I am happy to treat you both, but can only treat one of you at a time. I can even split the massage in to two halves and go back and forth, treating you both on and off.

Clients with Physical Disabilities and Medical Conditions

Customers with physical disabilities and medical conditions are welcome to contact me. So far I have treated wheelchair users, visually impaired and a few customers suffering from depression.

I have also treated 2 customers with parkinson's disease (whom I helped get undressed before the massage, and also get dressed after the massage), and one customer suffering from psoriasis. The oils I blended worked well for him and after a few visits, he told me that his skin condition has improved tremendously. I also advised him on some skincare.

I once had a customer who wore a colostomy bag. He didn't tell me this upfront and later confessed that he was embarrassed by it. Unfortunately, another masseur had refused to treat him in the past. I told him that this was nothing to be ashamed about. All I asked was that he put on a fresh bag before the massage.

I do not have lift/elevator access in the building I practise massage at. I am on the first floor. I have, on a few occasions, helped the occasional disabled customer upstairs, but that rarely happens. This is because most disabled customers ask for home visits. I don't advertise home visits, but do them in exceptional circumstances.

I have had customers in the past who have visited me with their carer. I have no issue with this as long as the carer does not observe the massage. This is because the treatment I do, especially the 3 step technique, is rather unique and I don't want anyone copying it!

I have also treated clients with cancer, in the past. Back problems are very common and I have treated many men who suffer from this condition. I also do some assisted stretching exercises for them.

So basically, if you have a medical condition or disability, please let me know about it. There's nothing to be embarrassed about. Don't feel reluctant to let me know. It helps. I also advise clients who are overweight, to let me know as I can then take the necessary precautions before doing the massage. This includes proper support, and making arrangements in terms of space etc.

Tailor-made Massage Treatments to Suit Your Needs

Customers who have specific requirements or needs are welcome to contact me and discuss matters before making bookings.

Some customers ask for a head massage to be included with the treatment, while others prefer a foot massage.

Often I get asked to put more focus on the back, and/or lower back as back problems are quite common.

Gym-goers and sportsmen often ask for deep tissue massage or just merely for more pressure on certain areas such as biceps, thighs, glutes etc. But overall, sporty types often want a full body deep tissue massage, for which I recommend my unique 3 step treatment.

Clients who prefer a lighter massage treatment which is more standard and simple are also welcome. This is also a full body massage.

Then of course, there's stress-relief, which is another thing I specialise in. From breathing technique to stretching movements, I assist the client. The massage treatments are geared towards giving the client a fulfilling experience. At the end of the massage, the client will experience relief and relaxation.

Unique 3 Step Massage Treatments - 078 5197 6445

My unique 3 step massage treatment is a mix of different styles; Sri Lankan, Thai and Keralan.

Step 1 - Performed on massage table/couch, using my hands. I use both short and long strokes in the Sri Lankan ayurvedic style. Movements are slow to begin with then slowly build up to fast. I alternate between movements too. Both sides of your body will be massaged (font and back).

Step 2 - I use my arms and elbows, in the Thai deep tissue style. I also use my knuckles, palms and fingers to add some variety to the motion and movements. You will still be on the massage table/couch and both sides of your body (front and back) will be massaged. Medium and/or deep pressure (depending on your preference) is applied to the back of your body and light to medium pressure is applied to the front of your body (especially chest and stomach areas as deep pressure on these areas is not a good idea!).

Step 3 - You will be moved to a thick yoga mat on the floor. I will be using my feet on your body, in the "Kalari" style, an ancient massage technique from the state of Kerala, south India. I add a bit of variation by using my knees too. Both sides of your body will be massaged and there will also be a bit of stretching technique to relax muscles and limbs. Padding can be added to the thick yoga mat for customers who don't like the hardness/thickness of the mat they're lying on. But to get the best benefits from the massage movements, padding is not advised. It depends on the customer's comfort though.

RATES:

1 hour – £80
1.5 hours – £100
